Recording With Zasz

Zasz

The very first time Zasz ever reached out to me was sometime around January of 2012. They had become familiar with my work after hearing some of the records I was a part of. A few days after an initial email from the band I sat down with Tim and Sean, the singer and the drummer, and talked with them about their prog rock sound, their influences, the formation of the band, their previous recording experiences, their previous touring experiences, getting started as a band new to Nashville and finally… the prospect of us working together. But 2012 turned out to be a busy year for all of us, and another ten months would click by before we actually stepped into the studio together…

Fast forward to November of 2012 and we were ready to rock. We booked some time at The Bomb Shelter – a great little studio in Nashville – broke away for the Thanksgiving holiday, then immediately re-grouped to punch the record button and make some fantastic tracks.

After wrapping things up at The Bomb Shelter, we moved the whole operation to my studio in Franklin for overdubs, where we’ve continued to work as the calendar has clicked into 2013.

So now as we get into the second quarter of 2013, we’re coming down to the final stretch of overdubs for the EP. We all couldn’t be happier with how things have turned out. These guys (and gal) are fantastic musicians. I’ve had a blast working with and learning from each member, and every recording day ends with surprises and exciting discoveries as the sound continues to take shape. This record sounds huge, slick, and sophisticated. And that is no surprise, because Zasz is a band made up of very accomplished musicians.

I’ll continue to post updates about the project as we move into the mix phase and beyond.
